here is part of my research paper...

Loretta DeCurtins was born on April 5, 1921. She was the 6th child born out of 8, though one died when he was 4 days old. She grew up in a small town In South Dakota. . When she was young there were many diseases such as measles, chicken pox, and mumps. Her brothers had typhoid fever and Scarlett fever. Her father owned a service station and even during the Great depressions people needed cars fixed and gas so they had plenty to eat but where not rich. There house was Quarantined and her father was not allowed to come onto the property. Loretta stayed in the house and did not catch anything. When she was growing up she does not remember ever going to the Doctor. Her mother had a cure for everything and she never worked. Her mother helped women when they were having babies. Her mother canned, sewed and was a mother. She went to school and Graduates in May of 1939 in a class of 3 girls and 6 boys.
Loretta worked in her brothers Café which was called the Coffee Cup Café. She did not really get paid but she could eat whatever she wanted and she was helping out her brother. In September if 1942 her Uncle Vern asked her to come to Los Angeles California. While she was in California she went to Airplane school. After she went to Airplane school she began to work at Vega which was part of Lockheed which is now all just known as Lockheed. She wore a Helmet, long sleeve shirt and pants to work. She worked on Air plane wings for the flying fortress. She drilled holes into the wings of airplanes. She did not like to rivet. On August 24th 1942 Loretta was awarded the rank of Colonel by the Lockheed Vega Employees victory committee in the fighting forces on the second front. This was quite an honor for her. Loretta worked from 3 AM to 12:30 PM. She rode the bus from Vega back to Las Angeles.
Most of the Women that worked in her factory were married and had children. The women needed to work while there husbands were away at war.
After work one evening Loretta went to the bowling Alley where she met Alof Lynn Carter. Lynn took her home that night. She told her roommate that this was the man she was going to marry. Three months later on Nov 15, 1942 they were married. Shortly after they were married Loretta became pregnant. Soon after she became pregnant Lynn left to serve in the Air Corps. Loretta went back home to live with her parents in South Dakota. Lynn came home when their first son was born but was gone for most of three years. While he was gone she took care of their baby boy and worked at her brother’s café. They had a crib in the café so that she could work while having him there. Her brothers were also gone to serve in the military and fight in the war.
When Lynn came home from the service he worked at Lockheed for awhile longer. Eventually they moved to Arizona and she is still in Arizona to this day.

When is your paper due? You want me to give you some constructive criticism? (I do it to the papers of Will's that are really important.)

This is such a cool idea, and such an interesting topic! Will they allow pictures in it, too?

When I took Women In U.S. History we had to write a paper on someone, and I wrote mine on Grandma, but you already have so much more good information than I had. (mine was generic! LOL)

If you want what I have, let me know and I'll send it. It's really long - have to add on to it so I can get copies printed for everyone. love ya, lvh
